“Legal Education and the Violation of Women’s Human Rights:
A Critique of Law Faculties in Eastern Europe”

Isabel Marcus has been teaching at the law school of SUNY Buffalo since 1982, during which time she has also been director of graduate and international programs, associate dean, and chair of the university’s department of women studies, among other duties. In 2002 she co-founded the Women’s Human Rights Training Institute in Sofia, Bulgaria, training young women’s rights lawyers from eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union to develop and litigate women’s human rights in their own countries, before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, and at the international level, and she has continued to lecture at the institute to the present.
